Although government grants and incentives such as the RHI mean that renewables are generally more cost effective than cheaper fossil fuel boilers, we may sometimes recommend using a conventional boiler alongside a heat pump. This is what’s known as a bivalent system and it’s a great solution for older, less efficient houses. While a heat pump should be sufficient for most of the year, it may still need a helping hand over the winter.
